*****NOTE TO ALL PLAYERS (EMAILED) - Wed 30/1/13*****
Last weekend was truly a natural disaster and we hope that everyone is safe and the inconveniences (like loss of power) have now been restored and you are back to normality.
Firstly I would like to thank all the people for their co-operation during Australia Day weekend. The spirit of beach volleyball was reinforced to me with all the well wishes and commitment from teams to play QLD Open 2013 on another date. It was a very difficult decision to continue with scheduled play for Saturday even with the severe weather warnings only 1000km away. As you know we had teams travelling from not only Brisbane but Cairns, Melbourne and elsewhere, who wanted to play in the event, and it was because of this and other factors that we did not call off the tournament till 6am Saturday morning.
As an update I have inspected the beaches at the Gold Coast and they are in very, very poor condition. With tides still high and the GCCC trying to fix fallen trees on houses and major facilities taking priority, there is no possible way of hosting this event at Surfers Paradise this weekend pharmacieviagra.com. Even with the council flattening the beach out this morning and with consultation from various departments, we may not have enough beach at Surfers for more than 2 courts till the king-tide season has finished around State Finals time.
We have made the decision to host the event at the newly reopened Pizzey Park beach volleyball facility, which regardless of the rain and wind will accommodate the QLD Open for this weekend. At the facility you have access to the pool, change rooms, kiosk, food and drinks. Most of you are also aware that the facility hosts 4 international standard out door courts and that we can play under lights. We will be bringing all the usual equipment as well as DJ Tallie.
We understand that this major event is not on the beach and I am sure that it is the first time that it hasn’t been hosted at the beach. But after such an awesome display from nature I am sure that you are all still fired up to have a hit and that the $3,000.00 prize money is still up for grabs!
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning at the technical meeting at 7:30 am!
